Ranger Reb Hits the Water
Among other things, I just have to say....
Thank you large discount store, for making such shitty spray-on sunscreen. I sprayed this stuff on till I glistened in the light like a piece of fried chicken. SPF 30. And this is the great job it did.
Yeah, so much for bargain shopping in the sunscreen aisle. Its not funny when you're crying in the shower.
But beyond that, had a great time camping/fishing/freezing my ass off for the past three days. Temps were in the lower 30's overnight, and there was rain and wind at all hours. No biggie though. Beneath the red nails and lipstick is a pretty tough chick.
But not as tough as Nicko who, for fun, chopped an entire fallen tree into fire-sized bits using nothing but an axe and her series girl-guns. Then she used a stick to bat rocks. That's when she wasn't shoving the boat off-shore singlehandedly, or busting stumps out from under our tent. Now that's a tough chick!
But beyond her toughness is a truly good egg. Apparently before we left, PG told her to take care of me. Now, I was wondering if he meant "take care of her" as in tie a log to her leg and drop her overboard. But Nicko thought it meant something different. So anytime I was in the boat, she was right there with me....knowing that I can't swim and might freak if my life jacket actually had to get wet. It didn't, but she was there, ready to haul my drowning ass out of the water.
The fishing wasn't so great, but the bald eagles were amazing. There are two of them in this photo, but I just had my crappy little camera in the boat and couldn't zoom close enough for great pics.
Home Sweet Home (after the downpour and windstorm that threatened to blow home sweet home to smithereens).
And yours truly getting ready to climb a big rocky hill in the Truck from Hell. Oh, and the new fuel pump worked really well, thank God.
And no, I'm not usually this dirty.
This is a purdy little beetle-like thing that took up residence on a water jug. He looked like a gemstone in the sun.
Some seriously dense forest. Nice views from the boat. I'm thinking if there were Bigfoots (Bigfeet?) they would live here.
I arrived home at about 9pm last night to be greeted by the Hounds and of course, PG. Oh, and a ton of rescue email that went unanswered while I took a very cool and careful shower (thanks again large discount crappy ass sunscreen). And then I did what I usually do after a good, dirty camping/fishing trip. Clean cotton everything, and air dried hair.
I can't wait for the next trip.
