It dawned on me tonight that since most people don't purposely run around looking for the paranormal, I'd give a rundown on what we do. Kind of a timeline of sorts to show what goes on before, during and after. Its how we roll.
9am - get everything charging. This means the camera batteries, rechargeable batteries for everything from the EMF meter(electromagnetic field) to the digital voice recorders, flashlights, you name it. The last thing we want to do is show up and have no juice. Make sure that all info is cleared from the last investigation.
2pm - Nighty night. Its nap time. In most situations, we're up most of the night and most of the time, it isn't thrill a minute excitement. So we take nice long nappies to insure that we aren't crashing and burning at 2am.
6pm - Wake up, hit the showers, and get the equipment loaded. Triple check that we have everything.
8pm - meet up with the others for dinner and a pre-investigation rundown. (Keep in mind that we try to do all of our property history research in the days leading up to an investigation. This is the time that we brief and discuss that.) Decide who's running what equipment, and let them know what to expect.
10pm - Arrive and tour the place. This may take minutes or a long time. But it helps to know exactly where activity is occurring so that we know where to position the infrared video cameras and where we're more likely to catch something.
10pm - ?? Investigate. This is of course, video, digital voice recordings, still photos, emf readings, temperature readings if we're hitting cold spots, etc etc etc. Most of this time is spent in the dark so that the infrared can do its thing.
Pack up and head out to the nearest coffee shop, Denny's or other 24 hour place and discuss it, and burn off some energy.
Head home and unload equipment. Hit the hay and get ready to go through hours of voice recordings, video, and still photos. This takes A LONG TIME because there's so much to watch and listen for, and it has to be done carefully.
Its a good time and is fun to just be heading out when most people are going to bed. Its a nice feeling to try and help people (by explaining away some occurrences when we can) or at least make them feel like they're not crazy (by validating some experiences when we can). Because ghosts exist in different ways to different people (and don't exist at all to others), its always interesting to see what people have to say and how they feel about things that go on in their house. From the extremely upset to the "whatever's fine" person, it seems that no two people feel the same about ghosts and their activities.
One thing is for sure though...every investigation is a new experience, and a chance to glimpse something that may be the future for all of us. The line between Here and There is thin in some cases, and how can you not be interested in bridging that gap?
Anyway, good times, good times.
