I know what you're thinking. "Hey Reb, where the hell have you been?" Or, "Reb, did you run off with that hawt poker playing guy?" Or, "Reb, did you slip on a pile of dog crap and break your typing arm or something?".
Nope.
I've been writing a book. Yeah, a whole freaking, long-ass, emotionally charged fiction novel about relationships, tragedy, comedy, and whatever else I can toss in there. Its like a Country Buffet of human emotion. Yeah, I know. Its a far cry from my old days of writing humor columns and speeches for local business people. But whatever, its time to grow up, put aside the humor and BS and write this damn book. And I can't write without music because well, mostly it drowns out the sounds of the Hounds barking at each other. Sure, I have a really nice, recently re-decorated writing room but then I can't keep an eye on the Hounds when they need to go out, or when they steal cookies off the kitchen counter. Or money. Yeah, they eat cash.
So I sit here at the island, crank the tunes (with headphones) and unleash the demons. I'm cranking down about 3000 words a day, which isn't always easy. A lot of grunting, sweating, furrowed-brow work. Like sex. Or aerobics. Or car repairs.
Anyway, here are a couple of songs that I listen to over and over that help me get there day after day as I unwind the complicated minds of these "people" that just seem so damn real to me lately...
And this one, brought to you by the person responsible for this latest writing project. A muse is a powerful thing.
And so my days have been gravitating between dogs, a little poker (yeah Flagstaff, I know.) and these thousands of words that are both tearing me apart and putting me back together...at the same time.
Viva la written word, Kids.
